About the site

The site is intended to give something more than just a family tree. Many visitors researching the family may never have been to Hertfordshire or, indeed, England, so you will find a map of the area and its relationship to London on the Roots page, where you will also find a brief description of the towns in North Hertfordshire where our ancestors lived.

The family tree now contains over 900 individuals in over 250 families! The Underlins date back to at least the 1600s and my present task is to try and identify Isaac Underhill, the 'head' of our family. The interchangeability of the surnames Underlin and Underhill, often within the same family, has caused quite a few problems! It now looks as though we Underlins were, in fact, originally Underhills!

I have recently discovered a place name "Underling Green" in Kent, England and, in nearby Marden, Kent, an Underlyn Lane and Underlyn Industrial Estate - I wonder if there is any connection with the family ... I would be very interested to hear from any body who can supply information on these names!

My second task is to try and produce a history of the family - I have already started work on it, but would welcome any information that might help. I would be particularly interested to hear from anyone in the family in Tasmania or Australia!!!!

The information contained on the family tree pages is only as good as the information found, so if they help you, or if you have other information then perhaps you could contact me so that I can update, correct or add new data. That way we can all benefit from the best information available!
